Contacting you government representative is easier than ever these days. Because it is so accessible it also makes it easier for your representative to ignore or simply not see your communication. Here are some easy tips to make sure your message gets read and responded to.
- Be civil and respectful, the golden rule is always the way to go. Remember you attract more flies with honey.
- If you are corresponding through email, in the SUBJECT line put the Bill Name & Number, whether to vote yes/no and if you are a constituent or not.
- In the BODY of the email be short and to the point. Also, make sure you know what you are talking about. Read the bill and familiarize yourself with the details.
- Get to know your representative. Where do they live? Look at their conflict of interest report. Click on their campaign financing.
